Wow! What a victory for FC Dallas on Wednesday night. David Ferreira was class again registering a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win over San Jose. The players showed trmendous character, and fight throughout the night. How about Jair Benitez clearing one off the line at the end to preserve the win? That was a gritty win on a night where FCD was constrained to purely willing themselves onto victory. Great stuff guys! Man does the home clash against Colorado setup nicely now or what? I certainly will not forget the brutal playoff losses suffered at the hands of the Rapids in the 05 and 06 seasons. Cunningham vs Casey for the Golden Boot, the return of a fan favorite in Drew Moor, and Ugo Ihemelu squares off against his former mates as well. There are so many good storylines for this game. One thing is for certain, nobody wants to play FCD right now!
I want to stop down as discuss a game that is also of the utmost importance- US vs Honduras. The games kickoff from San Pedro Sula at 9pm CT. The problem is the only way you could see it is right here at Pizza Hut Park. FIFA allows host countries to sell the television rights to the game themselves. This reason for this makes perfect sense because it allows host country soccer federations to make money to supprt the game in their own country, but what about us? Our game is gaining unprecedented coverage. Couldn't FIFA require the game must be shown on network television instead. It would still have the desired effect for host soccer federations. Anyway, this game is going to be a battle. You talk about a country that is ripe to rally around anything positive. For those of you who don't know the former Honduran president Manuel Zelaya was overthrown this summer, and current president Roberto Micheletti remains in power. It was questionable whether or not the game was going to even be played in Hinduras due to such political instability, and turmoil in the central american country. One thing is for sure, the US wants to take the crowd out of this game very early. Sounds simple right? Well it will not be, but they must do so with defensive organization, and coordinated spells that end with and occasional chance here and there. This Honduran team might be it's most talented ever. Former Dallas player Ramon Nunez brings a vigor to the attack, and the US defense must watch forward Carlo Costly. I expect a good performance from this team. After all what we saw in Trinidad was a result, but not much of a performance from the US side. Make sure you make it out to Pizza Hut Park to wear your heart on your sleeve for this one. Can't wait to soak it in. I think we'll see the US secure a birth in their 6th consecutive World Cup. Come early, be loud, stay late!
